Russia formulates semiconductor development plan to achieve mass production of 28nm by 2030

Time:2022-04-19 Views:2121
According to the news on April 18, Russia is drawing up plans to revive its ailing local semiconductor manufacturing industry because it is unable to obtain chips from conventional suppliers due to sanctions. The new chip plan involves considerable investment in the next eight years.

According to tomshardware, the Russian government has formulated a preliminary version of the new microelectronics development plan, which requires an investment of about 3.19 trillion rubles (38.43 billion US dollars) by 2030. According to CNews, these funds will be used to develop local semiconductor production technology, local chip development, data center infrastructure, training of local talents and marketing of domestic chips and solutions.

In terms of semiconductor manufacturing, Russia plans to invest 420 billion rubles (US $5 billion) in the research and development of new manufacturing technologies. One of Russia‘s short-term goals is to increase the output of local chips using 90nm manufacturing technology by the end of this year. The long-term goal is to establish a manufacturing system using 28nm nodes by 2030, which is the goal achieved by TSMC in 2011.

The plan will be finalized on April 22, 2022 and submitted to the Prime Minister for formal approval.
