On May 19, DIGITIMES reported that in recent years, the IC design industry in Chinese Mainland has remained active, and the number of related companies has continued to rise. Statistics from ICCAD show that the number of IC design companies in Chinese Mainland will reach 2810 in 2021, an increase of 26.7% over 2218 in 2020. It is worth noting that there were only 1780 local IC design companies in 2019, which shows a significant growth in the past two years.
In 2021, a total of 7 IC design companies in Chinese Mainland were listed on the science and innovation board, raising a total of RMB 12.1 billion. As of December 1, 2021, the total market value of these companies was RMB 223 billion. At present, a total of 42 IC design companies are listed on the main board, small and medium-sized board, gem and science and innovation board. These companies have raised nearly 44.7 billion yuan, with a cumulative market value of 1.8 trillion yuan.
The report points out that the growth of the semiconductor industry in the future will depend more on electric vehicles (EV), 5g mobile phones, the Internet of things (IOT) and artificial intelligence chips. However, there is huge demand in the integrated circuit application market and electronic machinery industry in Chinese Mainland, which will promote the rapid development of IC design industry in Chinese Mainland.
