On November 9, according to the Wall Street Journal, insiders said that chip manufacturer TSMC was preparing to invest billions of dollars to build a factory in Arizona.
According to insiders, TSMC plans to announce in the next few months that it will build a cutting-edge semiconductor factory in the north of Phoenix, Arizona, adjacent to another chip factory that the company announced to build in 2020. The insiders said that the investment scale is expected to be roughly equivalent to the 12 billion US dollars (about 86.88 billion yuan) pledged two years ago.
It is learned that in May 2020, TSMC announced that it would invest 12 billion dollars to build a new wafer factory in Arizona, USA. The construction of the plant will start in June 2021 and is expected to be put into operation in 2024.
According to previous reports, TSMC‘s Arizona factory, which was announced to be built in 2020, is expected to use the 5nm manufacturing process to contract wafers for relevant customers, with a monthly capacity of 20000 wafers, including Nvidia, Qualcomm and Apple.
