     On December 13, the International Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Association (SEMI) released a report on December 12 local time, saying that the global semiconductor industry is expected to invest more than 500 billion dollars (about 3.49 trillion yuan) in 84 large-scale chip manufacturing plants that will be constructed from 2021 to 2023.
    The report points out that the segments of the market, including automobiles and high-performance computing, will drive the growth of expenditure. The growth expectation includes 33 new factories to be built this year and 28 new factories to be built in 2023.
    It is understood that the SEMI report covers data from seven regions, as follows:
    From 2021 to next year, it is expected that 18 new factories/production lines will be constructed in the Americas;
    It is expected that the number of new chip manufacturing plants in Chinese Mainland will exceed that in all other regions, and 20 plants/production lines are planned to support mature processes;
    It is expected that 14 new factories/production lines will be built in Taiwan, China;
    Between 2021 and 2023, 17 Fab plants will be constructed in Europe/Middle East;
    Japan and Southeast Asia are expected to start building 6 new factories/production lines respectively in the forecast period;
    South Korea is expected to start building three large factories/production lines.
