On May 8th, mobile processor giant Qualcomm announced its acquisition of Israeli automotive communication chip manufacturer Autotalks, aiming to strengthen the Snapdragon Digital Chassis product portfolio and further deepen its automotive business by accelerating the adoption of V2X technology. But Qualcomm did not specify the amount of this transaction in detail.
According to official website information, Autotalks is a fabless semiconductor company dedicated to developing automatic communication chip technology between automobiles, roads, and municipal infrastructure (V2X), aiming to improve road safety. The company was founded in 2008 and is a privately held company with strong financial support from globally leading venture capital funds, original equipment manufacturers, and first tier companies. The company is headquartered in Israel and has offices in North America, Germany, France, China, Japan, and South Korea.
Autotalks‘ first second-generation chipset provides the highest performance and reliability, and is deployed in numerous exciting connectivity and autonomous driving projects driven by OEMs and Tier1 worldwide. Autotalks is also the only company to provide a global V2X solution that is compatible with any V2X technology, while adhering to the strictest safety, functional safety, and reliability automotive requirements.
Since 2017, we have been investing in the research, development, and deployment of V2X and believe that as the automotive market matures, an independent V2X safety architecture will be needed to improve the safety of road users and intelligent transportation systems, "said Nakul Duggal, Senior Vice President of Qualcomm Automotive
It is worth mentioning that Qualcomm has previously stated that its automotive business revenue has increased to $30 billion, and since the end of July 2022, the amount has increased by over $10 billion. Therefore, after acquiring Autotalks, it is expected that Qualcomm will further strengthen its product line in the automotive chip field and expand its automotive chip business revenue.
