Microchip Launches First Batch of Vehicle Grade 10BASE-T1S Ethernet Devices

Time:2023-08-06 Views:680
LAN8670/1/2 series Ethernet PHY simplifies the architecture for connecting low-speed devices to standard Ethernet networks
Automotive design hope to use the technology that can migrate applications to Ethernet networks to replace the traditional gateway subsystem, so as to easily obtain information from the edge to the cloud. In order to provide automotive grade Ethernet solutions to OEM manufacturers, Microchip Technology Inc. (Microchip Technology, USA) today announced the launch of the first batch of automotive grade Ethernet PHYs. The 10BASE-T1S series devices meet the AEC-Q100 first level qualification, with models including LAN8670, LAN8671, and LAN8672.
LAN8670/1/2 10BASE-T1S Ethernet PHY is ready for Functional safety and is designed for ISO 26262 applications. With these devices, low-speed devices that previously required built-in communication systems can now be connected to standard Ethernet systems in automotive applications.
Microchip continues to prioritize providing connectivity solutions to the automotive industry by launching the 10BASE-T1S series of products. This new technology will connect sensors and actuators used in the physical world to the cloud, making seamless Ethernet architectures ubiquitous, "said Matthias Kaestner, Vice President of Microchip‘s Automotive Products Business Unit
Connecting multiple Ethernet PHYs to a common bus line makes deploying automotive applications on a single popular architecture simpler, while saving deployment costs by reducing wiring and switch ports. LAN8670/1/2 enables network edges to easily communicate with other parts of the network infrastructure using Ethernet and Internet Protocol (IP). These devices include advanced PHY diagnostics, providing users with troubleshooting capabilities. In addition, the sleep/wake function supports low-power mode.
The characteristics of the 10BASE-T1S device include 10 Mbps, half duplex mode, flexible point-to-point topology, multiple bus lines, and the use of single pair balanced wires. These devices also have enhanced Electromagnetic compatibility/electromagnetic interference (EMC/EMI) performance, and support time sensitive network (TSN), which can enable remote Ethernet networks to achieve synchronous timing. Time synchronization is crucial for many applications in the entire automotive partitioning architecture.
Microchip is one of the main contributors to the development of the IEEE Automotive Class 10BASE-T1S technical standard. This technology expands the coverage of Ethernet to devices typically located at the edge of the network, thereby simplifying system design.
