Vishay launches industry-leading small 6A, 20A, and 25A voltage regulator modules to increase the power density of POL converters

    Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE stock code: VSH) announced the launch of new 6 A, 20 A, and 25 A microBRICK ® Synchronous voltage regulators - SiC967, SiC931, and SiC951, used to improve the power density and efficiency of load point (POL) converters. Vishay Siliconix SiC967, SiC931, and SiC951 are packaged in 10.6 mm x 6.5 mm x 3 mm packages, with a smaller footprint and height than similar devices on the market, and an input voltage range of 4.5 V to 60 V.
    The recently released regulator module is 69% smaller than other solutions, with each module integrating two high-performance MOSFETs, an inductor, and a controller. Configuration and loop compensation only require minimal external components. The miniaturization of devices significantly improves power density, while high integration reduces design complexity and accelerates product launch speed. The static power consumption of the controller of the voltage regulator is very small, with a peak efficiency of up to 97%. MicroBRICK regulators are suitable for data centers, communication infrastructure, and industrial applications, providing efficient power to FPGA, ASIC, and SoC core power supplies, helping to reduce energy consumption.
    The voltage regulator has high configuration capability, wide input voltage range, and adjustable output voltage as low as 0.3V. In addition, SiC931 has four programmable switching frequencies of 600 kHz, 1 MHz, 1.5 MHz, and 2 MHz, while SiC967 and SiC951 have adjustable switching frequencies of 100 kHz to 2 MHz and 300 kHz to 1.5 MHz, respectively. All three devices can adjust the current limit, and SiC931 can also adjust soft start. The SiC951, which meets the PMBus 1.3 standard, supports three working modes: continuous, tracking, and simultaneous.
    The regulator module provides universal solutions for a wide range of applications, including server POL converters, cloud computing, high-performance computing, desktop computers, industrial automation, motor drivers and power tools, monitoring systems, consumer electronics, and 5G communication devices. For these applications, SiC951 and SiC967 offer three working modes: forced continuous operation, ultrasonic and energy-saving. SiC931 provides forced continuous operation and energy-saving mode. In energy-saving mode, when the inductor current exceeds zero, the control circuit turns off the low side MOSFET and deploys diode simulation mode. The switching frequency decreases proportionally with the load conditions. The switching frequency has no lower limit and can achieve the highest possible efficiency under light load conditions.
    The constant on time (COT) architecture of the device has ultra fast transient response capability, requiring only a small output capacitor and can strictly adjust the ripple even under very light loads. Moreover, regardless of the type of output capacitor used, including low ESR ceramic capacitors, the voltage regulator can maintain loop stability. The voltage regulator integrates various reliable protection functions, including output overvoltage (OVP) and undervoltage protection (UVP), cycle by cycle overcurrent protection (OCP), short circuit protection with automatic retry (SCP), overheat protection (OTP), and power normal flag.
