Texas Instruments releases new low-power gallium nitride series products

Can reduce the size of AC/DC power adapters by half

    Texas Instruments (TI) (NASDAQ code: TXN) today released a new low-power gallium nitride (GaN) series product, which can help improve power density, significantly improve system efficiency, and reduce the size of AC/DC consumer power electronics and industrial systems. Texas Instruments‘ entire range of GaN field-effect transistors (FETs) integrates gate drivers, which can solve common heat dissipation design problems, keep the adapter cool, and provide higher power in smaller sizes.
    "Today, consumers need energy-efficient power adapters that are smaller, lighter, more portable, and can charge quickly. With our new product release, designers can apply the power density advantages of low-power GaN technology to more products that consumers use daily, such as phone and laptop adapters, TV power units, and USB wall sockets. In addition, Texas Instruments‘ product portfolio can also meet the growing demand for efficient and compact designs in industrial systems such as power tools and server auxiliary power supplies."
     The new GaN FET product portfolio with integrated gate drivers includes LMG3622, LMG3624, and LMG3626, providing industry ultra precise integrated current detection capabilities. Compared with traditional current detection circuits using split type GaN and silicon FET, due to the integrated current detection function, there is no need to connect external shunt resistors, and the related power loss can be reduced by up to 94%, helping designers significantly improve efficiency.
Significantly improve energy efficiency and simplify heat dissipation design
    The GaN FET with integrated gate driver in TI can achieve faster switching speed, which helps prevent adapter overheating; It also supports designers to increase the system efficiency of AC/DC applications below 75W to 94%, and to increase the system efficiency of AC/DC applications above 75W to over 95%. Compared to silicon-based solutions, our new devices can help designers reduce the size of typical 67W power adapter solutions by up to 50%.
    This product portfolio has also been optimized for common topology structures in AC/DC power conversion, such as quasi resonant flyback, asymmetric half bridge flyback, inductor inductor converter, totem pole power factor correction, and active clamp flyback.
Long term investment in gallium nitride manufacturing
    Texas Instruments has a long history of self owned manufacturing, with a global presence and regional diversification. Among the 15 manufacturing bases worldwide, it includes multiple wafer manufacturing plants, packaging and testing plants, as well as protrusion processing plants and wafer testing plants. For over a decade, Texas Instruments has been committed to researching and developing gallium nitride technology.
    Texas Instruments plans to manufacture over 90% of its own products by 2030, thus providing customers with more reliable production capacity in the coming decades.

    TI.com/GaN now offers mass-produced LMG3622 and LMG3626 devices, as well as pre production LMG3624 devices.
